MultiMedia Project
The purpose of incorporating a Multimedia Project is to allow disciplinary curriculum that transforms learning for adolescent students. Multimedia projects give an opportunity to make information highly accessible for learners. Multimedia design can be accessible for students in several forms and allow them have access to multiple ways of learning. Multiple intelligences have the ability to foster growth in mixed media. After much consideration the purpose of my project is to guide students in using multimedia to support their writing skills perhaps using helpful sites such as Glogster. This project will serve as crucial for students to successfully implement because it creates an atmosphere in which students are comfortable interacting and prevents isolation in classrooms.
My rationale for a multimedia project allows for students to reflect on creative ways to process and share their thinking and most importantly convert their thinking to academic writing suitable for college. If students can engage in multimedia project such as Glogster or prezi; they are not only able to collaborate with students and are also communicating literacy and expanding their writing skills.
The first community I joined was “Google Classroom”because I would hope that will it will allow me to understand how to successfully implement student collaboration in order to create a larger project that requires much attention. I am familiar with Google Docs and it offers collaboration between documents. I would like to learn how these documents can be used in the classroom in conjunction with traditional text. I hope that the Google Classrooms community will aid in helping me create mini lessons and teach skills using technology. Mixed media requires students to be accountable for work in a much more intricate manner.
In my classroom when students don't complete their work it usually results in a zero; however when implementing mixed media projects in the classroom students need each opportunity to successfully complete a portion of their project to ensure a greater outcome since every day builds towards a final creation. This will aid my struggling writers and motivate those who dread writing.
Multimedia will help support writing and literacy in my class by engaging students in cognitive thinking. I would like for Students to make Web to world connections that are relevant and useful to their task of writing. The student centered approach motivates students to pursue their own interests in learning. Although I would prefer to make the Multimedia project conducive to the unit being taught. I would like for the common core English standards to be exemplified in the media project students engage in; this way skills they are important to learn in the classroom can also be exhibited in technology students use for integrating classroom material and media.
Goal: I would like for students to implement a multimedia project and use it to enhance their cognitive skills when teaching students new concepts. Currently I am teaching a unit on the American Dream and often notice that students struggle reading the novel The Great Gatsby and writing about the text. It is often difficult for students to engage themselves in text when isolated or at home. They also struggle thinking critically and using text to support their writing. By combining digital media and writing, I might be able to draw students into writing who do not normally participate in the writing process. By joining the Classroom Community “Educational technology and mobile Learning” I can learn about ways to incorporate technology and even perhaps go to the lengths of having a paperless classroom. This community has very helpful and informative ways to engage in voice based activities and I would like to implement some strategies with the ELA Standards. Multimedia projects are a way for students to achieve high self-esteem, and my goal is to increase their ability to function as self-directed learners so they can teach each other.
By joining the community “English Language Teaching and Learning” I can learn how to specifically incorporate technology into English lessons and create literacy lessons that help students master the skills that would be needed to pass their standardized exams.
Joining these communities would assist me with my goals of using media to improve student literacy and using technology to exceed ELA standards because the communities provides methods and ways to engage student in active writing. Because student writing is a struggle and often needs to be excessively scaffold-ed I hope to implement a design that will improve writing skill while effectively meeting my learning objective.
Hi Esther! I was looking at the Google Classroom community as well. There are so many great communities to choose from, and I found many of them were very similar. I ended up choosing Google Classroom for Educators, although I doubt they're very different. I love the idea behind your MMP, particularly giving consideration to the effect of multimedia on multiple intelligence learning. It seems like such a natural way to consider technology-based learning. I'm not familiar with the site Glogster, so I'm going to check that out, too!

Hi Esther,
ReplyDeleteI love your point about having students making "Web to world connections that are relevant and useful to their task of writing." I agree that this is a great benefits of having students use multimedia tools. They can be part of a greater conversation that's not limited to their classroom. The products they design (be it written or in some other form) can be shared well beyond the limits of the school itself, and I think that can be really powerful for students.
Hey Esther, I liked your take about which communities to join for your project. I also decided to go for Google Classroom. I really liked how you talked about the collaboration aspect to it. I completely agree, implemented a tool like that in your classroom can have the students share ideas and work together effectively both in and out of the classroom. I also like how you are currently trying to find new ways to incorporate multimedia in your classroom. I think that it is awesome that you are taking what you are learning from this course and already trying to put it into action.
ReplyDeleteEsther, thank you for your post. When I first started looking into this project I felt pretty intimidated by it, but after reading your entry here I think I have a better grasp on what we're supposed to be doing for the MMP. As an english based subject, your comments don't directly correlate to my physics base, but I think I'm starting to get some ideas on how I might be able to apply it.
ReplyDeleteHi Esther,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Your rationale for joining the online communities that you have selected is highly favorable. I am glad to see that you would like to expand your knowledge of Google Classroom and Google Docs. Figuring out ways to assess student knowledge and integrating new technology platforms can be invigorating. I am here to support you as you work through your multimedia montage project. You are off to a great start!
Hi Esther,
ReplyDeleteDuring one of my classes here at Rutgers, my professor used Google Classroom for class management. Grades, assignments, announcements, and important resources were all available through this platform. One of the greatest benefits of using Google Suites is having everything digitized... You can cut down on paperwork by allowing students to submit their assignments digitally through Google Docs or even Google Slides. You have the ability to make comments on students' work through Google Docs, which students can respond to, which opens up conversation regarding their work or any questions you or the student may have.
